BRASS IN THE PARK
A WEEKEND OF MUSICAL EVENTS
Friday 29 August - GALA CONCERT at 7.30pm With Newtongrange Silver Band conducted by Nigel Boddice, Guest Soloist Russell Gray (cornet) and The Midlothian Schools Big Band Saturday 30 August - MARCH and HYMN TUNE CONTEST commencing 11.00am An "open" contest with a total prize fund of £4,900. As well as the March & Hymn Tune Contest on the stage of the main tent, in which 17 senior bands will take part, there will be 16 junior/training/novice bands competing for the junior prizes. Additionally, a Marching Deportment Contest will held. Just along the road at the Scottish Mining Museum, 15 bands will each be presenting a 20 minute concert of their own choice music. Sunday 31 August - MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT & PRAISE IN THE PARK from 12noon to 5.30pm Featuring Pipe Bands, a Ceilidh Band, a Swing Band, a Big Band and an Accordian Band, plus brass provided by host band Newtongrange Silver Band. The afternoon will culminate in the "Praise in the Park" Concert hosted by Newtongrange Silver Band The Event will also feature a mini fairground, children’s entertainers, a beer tent, a variety of catering outlets, trade stands and various stalls and sideshows.
